About

The Roy E. and Patricia Disney Forum and the Communication Department present another event in our "Race, Representation, and Communication" series. Dr. Katynka Z. Martinez, Professor of Latina/Latino Studies at San Francisco State University, will join us to talk about the art of American painter/ Chicana feminist activist Yolanda Lopez. In her talk, "Representing working-class people without celebration and without shame: The art of Yolanda Lopez," Dr. Martinez will discuss the influence of activism, particularly the struggles of the Third World Liberation Front that helped birth the Ethnic Studies movement, and history on Lopez’s art. The presentation will include a clip from a documentary produced by Martinez and Lopez on aging and artistic practice, as well as many slides of Lopez’s art.

Snacks and drinks will be provided.
