Eyes on Yolanda: The Silent I in ¡Yo!

In Julia Alvarez’ family novel ¡Yo!, every character tells a story about Yolanda, the protagonist. Only Yo (“I” in Spanish) remains silent. In this workshop, we will reflect on the novel’s inventive structure and consider how identity is shaped by the stories others tell about us. Then we’ll explore the idea further by writing brief narratives of our own.
