About

You're invited to join Saint Mary's MFA in Creative Writing core faculty member Marilyn Abildskov for an evening discussion revolving around creative nonfiction as a genre, pursuing an MFA degree, and finding a fulfilling career in writing. All prospective students and current applicants interested in creative nonfiction or interdisciplinary writing are strongly encouraged to attend.

Saint Mary's Virtual Information Sessions are designed to give prospective students the opportunity to connect directly with our faculty, staff, and students in a smaller environment. While we'll often speak specifically to the program here at SMC, we hope that this session will be informative and beneficial for anyone who's looking to pursue an MFA in Creative Writing.

Our Assistant Director of Admissions will also be on hand to answer any questions about the application process. Our priority application deadline is Friday, December 20th, 2024 and you can check out our Admissions page for more details.

Marilyn Abildskov, recipient of a 2024 Creative Writing Fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts, is the author of The Men in My Country. She received her MFA from the University of Iowa’s Nonfiction Writing Program and is the recipient of a Rona Jaffe Writers’ Award for her nonfiction, and a Glenna Luschei Prairie Schooner Award for her fiction, as well as honors from the Corporation of Yaddo, the Djerassi Writing Residency, and the Utah Arts Council. Her essays and short stories have been published in Ploughshares, Story, The Sun, Colorado Review, The Southern Review, AGNI, and Best American Essays, and elsewhere. She teaches regularly at the Iowa Summer Writing Festival.
