Anna Maximova , Ph.D.
Professional Overview
Bio: I am originally from Minsk, Belarus but have lived in the U.S. for the last 20 years. My Ph.D. is in economics and my field of specialization is in international trade and macroeconomics. As a primary instructor, I have taught over 100 sections of various undergraduate courses as well as a handful of graduate level courses. Some of the undergraduate courses I have taught include: principles of micro and macroeconomics, comparative economic systems, intermediate macro, microeconomics theory, international trade, money and banking, econometrics, business statistics, graduate level managerial economics and economic development courses. I also had the opportunity to oversee various undergraduate independent study research projects and economic major capstone courses. I have taught mostly intermediate level applied macroeconomics graduate courses for the MS in Management and Technology at St. Mary's College.
My fields of research are immigration, trade and economic growth. Specifically, I am interested in the differential effect of immigrants and refugees on trade with their home countries. In addition, I am interested in how differential fertility affects cross-country human capital accumulation and economic growth. Recently, I started looking into how international bilateral labor agreements affect aggregate and sector-level trade flows. I am also active in the field of economics education. You can read more about my research on my professional website here.
I enjoy teaching, advising, working with students and helping them develop a keen interest in the subject of economics as well as encouraging them to develop new research ideas and engage in economic research projects. I am humbled and grateful to have received an "Outstanding Teacher Award" in 2020, an "Outstanding Service Award" in 2021 for student advising and committee work in SEBA and the “Outstanding Research Award” in the College of Business in 2023.
