Professional Overview

Pratik Raghu is a member of Saint Mary's new Environmental Justice and Sustainability Cluster and its corresponding Institute, as well as part of the Justice, Community, and Leadership Program. Pratik completed his PhD in Global Studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara in 2022, focusing his dissertation on semi-autonomous Indigenous mobilizations against neoliberal dispossession and state violence in Jharkhand, India and Oaxaca, Mexico. He was a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Environmental Policy and Sustainability Management Program at the New School in New York City from 2022-24.


At UCSB and The New School, Pratik developed courses on global history, culture, and ideology, global political ecology and economy, the politics and environment of South Asia, scholar-activist research methodologies, and eco-fascism and eco-socialism. He is broadly interested in anti-capitalist, anti-authoritarian, Indigenous, and decolonial grassroots movements and theoretical frameworks across the Global South, with a geographical emphasis on South Asia and Latin America. His writing has appeared in both recognized scholarly journals such as Perspectives on Global Development and Technology and on popular public intellectual platforms such as ROAR Magazine, CounterPunch, and Society & Space. Pratik has organized with various campus and community groups providing mutual aid and political education on both the West and East Coasts, currently serving as a board member for the environmental justice education-centered nonprofit organization Start:Empowerment.
