A Resident Teacher is a credential student who has been accepted into a Resident Teacher program with one of our partner districts. Resident Teachers are required to complete all the coursework for the Teacher preparation program at Saint Mary’s College. They will complete their field placement at their partner district. Resident Teachers earn a grant funded living stipend through the district.
On Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, Resident Teachers will be placed in a classroom with a mentor teacher. Mondays and Fridays will be open for work as paid subs.
San Ramon Valley Unified: The 2024-2025 stipend will be $32,500. It will be paid monthly.
Brentwood Unioin: BUSD is in the process of applying for grant funding for the Teacher Residency program and the living stipend in dependent on grant approval. Check back in the spring for more details.
No. SRVUSD and BUSD do not have any qualifying schools on the Golden State Teacher Grant list.
San Ramon Valley: The Summer 2024 cohort started with 10 Resident Teacher positions. In Summer 2025, SRV expects to expand the program to have 20 new Resident Teacher positions available.
Brentwood: In Summer 2025, Brentwood expects to have 10 Resident Teacher positions available.

The priority deadline for all teacher residency programs is December 6, 2024. The final deadline is January 15, 2025. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, and teacher residency positions are expected to be in high demand. Interested candidates are encouraged to apply early.
Resident teachers benefit from placement with a mentor teacher while still having the opportunity to earn income as a substitute and receive a living stipend.
Orientation and Classes for Summer 2025 begin May 27, 2025.
For San Ramon Valley, placement with mentor teachers and opportunities for substitute teaching begin in the Fall.
Brentwood follows a year-round academic calendar. For Resident Teachers in Brentwood, placement with mentor teachers and opportunities for substitute teaching would begin in mid to late July.
Classes are held on campus at Saint Mary's College.
All credential classes for the resident teacher program will be held in-person. BILA classes are held online.
Yes. All resident teachers are eligible to opt in to the MA in Teaching program the Summer following their residency.
The MA in Teaching is not part of the residency program. Interested candidates would complete an additional 12 units of graduate level work as traditional Saint Mary's graduate students. MA in Teaching classes are held online.
San Ramon Valley Unified: Education Specialist (Special Education) and Single Subject STEM Credentials only.
Brentwood Union: Multiple Subject Credentials only.
