by Daniel Larlham | April 25, 2022

CLIMATE JUSTICE THEATRE ACTION

Sponsored by the Roy E. and Patricia Disney Forum and Communication Department, the Performing Arts Department, the SOLA Dean’s Office, the School of Science, the Seminar Informal Curriculum, and Climate Action SMC

Date/time/location: Weds., May 4th, 1:00-2:15 pm, outdoors on Dante Quad

Climate Justice Theatre Action will feature drama, science, spectacle, music, policy, and participatory movement.  The CJTA event will highlight the perspectives of environmental justice, confronting the reality that our extractive economy is right now jeopardizing the lives, livelihoods, and cultural traditions of many peoples, particularly the poor and residents of the Global South.  Overall, the performance will summon a spirit of acceptance and resolve in facing the climate crisis, using artistic communication to open up access to the love for life and deep morality that reside within us.

The event will feature a comedic sketch titled Climate Commedia; or, The Wisdom of No Escape, an eco-feminist mini-drama by playwright Hannah Cormick titled Dream/Remember, participatory movement led by Dance faculty member Shaunna Vella, a mythic grande finale sequence featuring giant puppets, and speeches by students campaigning for sustainability and climate action on the SMC campus.

Admission is free.
