Critical IT Maintenance – Thursday, April 3, 5 PM–10 PM

by IT Services | March 28, 2025

On Thursday, April 3, from 5 PM to 10 PM, there will be a planned outage to repair damaged electrical components in our data center. This work is necessary to ensure the integrity and reliability of our systems and will help support all of our mission-critical buildings and services.

During this electrical repair, all SMC services—including Internet/Wi-Fi, Colleague, GaelXpress, VPN, FS2, and other campus systems—will be unavailable. However, this outage is limited to the data center and will not affect electrical service elsewhere on campus. Cloud-based applications such as Gmail, Google Drive, and others will remain accessible from off campus during this time.

To prevent data loss, please save your work before 5 PM on April 3rd and close all SMC applications, especially FS2 and Colleague, before the shutdown begins.

Scheduling this maintenance in the evening, rather than during our usual morning window, minimizes disruptions to academic and administrative operations that rely heavily on these systems during the workday. Additionally, conducting the outage from 5 PM to 10 PM allows IT staff to complete the repairs with minimal impact on essential daytime activities while still ensuring sufficient time for testing and validation before the next business day.

We will send an update once the work is complete and services are restored.

Thank you for your patience while we make this critical update.
