East Bay Times Spotlights SMC's Randy Bennett

As Saint Mary's men's basketball coach Randy Bennett closes in on career win No. 500, East Bay Times and San Jose Mercury News correspondent Jeff Faraudo provided a look at Bennett's career. In the piece, Faraudo talks to Bennett's wife, Darlene, as well as Bennett himself on the trajectory his career has taken.

“So my expectations were, let’s get better,” Bennett shared about his early days in Moraga. “I had enough confidence in myself and the players and coaches around me, I knew we could win more than two games.”

In the piece, Faraudo also shares comments from Saint Mary's Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Mike Matoso, and coaching contemporaries like Gonzaga's Mark Few and former Cal and Stanford coach Mike Montgomery.

“When it’s all said and done, based off the resources that we’ve had, it’s going to be one of the better coaching (jobs) in the history of the NCAA,” said Matoso. “It’s pretty unparalleled.”
