Gaels Invited to Women's Basketball Invitational
The Saint Mary's Women's Basketball Team will play in the Women's Basketball Invitational starting March 18 in Lexington, Kentucky.
Eight Division-I women's basketball teams will headline the 2022 Women's Basketball Invitational set for March 18-20 in Lexington, KY. The eight-team tournament will feature four games each day at the Clive M. Beck Center on the campus of Transylvania University.
Saint Mary's College takes on Austin Peay State University in Friday's second game. Saint Mary's comes to Lexington from the West Coast Conference where they finished 15-15 while APSU brings a 19-11 record into postseason after finishing fourth in the Ohio Valley Conference. The game is scheduled to start at 2:30 pm Central Time.
"We are elated to participate in the WBI tournament in Lexington, Kentucky," Head Women's Basketball Coach Paul Thomas said. "This will be a great experience for our young team and we hope to make the most of this opportunity. Our program is grateful for all those who have made this trip possible."
The tournament opener is slated for Friday, Mar. 18 at 12:00 pm when Bowling Green State University will face Furman University. The Gaels will play one of those teams in their second game.

The Women's Basketball Invitational provides a choice for postseason worthy Division I Women's teams who wish to continue their season but who do not qualify for the NCAA tournament, with an eight-team tournament with a guarantee of three games, as there are consolation games in the tournament as well.
Teams are picked based on NET, record, conference standings, end of year performance, and quality wins and losses. Fans can see this year's bracket here.
