Lara Adra ’20 Lands Dream Job Post-SMC
Communication major Lara Adra ’20 confidently entered the workforce at CBS network with the help of Saint Mary’s Career and Professional Development Services (CPDS). CPDS strives to provide students with high-impact possibilities, with resources spanning from job application material help to meaningful workshops and events.
When Adra started her post-graduation job search, she found herself overwhelmed and lacking proper preparation. She said the experience was stressful and time-consuming, leading her to reach out to CPDS. “Thankfully, with the help of an experienced and encouraging CPDS staff,” Adra said, “I gained the necessary knowledge and tools that gave me increased confidence in my job search.” This resulted in her landing a dream position in the entertainment industry after graduation.
A Network of Support
CPDS is committed to providing personalized resume and cover-letter assistance to students who take advantage of the resource. Students can work one-on-one with advisors who specialize in career resources to receive feedback on their job application materials. Adra said she was “impressed to see their persistence in prioritizing and providing results-driven tools and support for me. After each meeting, I would leave the CPDS center with a marked-up résumé and a full page of notes that I would review and implement before the next meeting.”
After graduating with a degree in Communication, Adra began to search for job opportunities with the networking, résumé, and cover letter skills she learned at CPDS. She now works as a partnership & developer marketing coordinator for Apple, and “can’t help but feel thankful for the opportunities I was able to receive after graduating in a tough climate.”
