Saint Mary's College Remembers 9/11

by President Richard Plumb, PhD | September 10, 2021

Dear Saint Mary’s College Community,

On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of September 11, I want to ask our community to take a moment to remember the victims of those tragic events and the heroes who stepped forward that day. We remember the lives that were lost and salute the first responders who saved so many. The enduring effects of the 9/11 attacks are ever present in our country today and around the globe.

We are especially proud to recognize the veterans among Saint Mary’s students, staff, faculty, and alumni. We thank you for your service and realize that you bring invaluable experience to our campus. We are grateful for the dedication of all of our country’s service members and veterans, and we keep them in our thoughts and prayers.

On a tragic anniversary such as this, it is important to acknowledge that pain crosses cultural, race, and religious lines. So, too, however, does faith. Our founder, Saint John Baptist de La Salle, reminds us, “Your faith should be a light which guides you in all things.” Never is that more true than today. Let us find comfort in our communal faith and grace in our unity. I am inspired by the genuine care and compassion present in the hearts of the members of Saint Mary’s community. Let us always take care of one another.

Sincerely,

Richard Plumb, PhD
