The Saint Mary’s College Dance Company is excited to present the compelling performances of this fall’s dance concert, Streams of Consciousness. This shared student-led showcase is choreographed, produced, and performed by the Dance Program’s Class of 2025: Cadence Godwin, Citlali Gallo, Erica Hardy, Gianna Ottati, Liam Mccullar, Lu Price, Melanie Parlan, and Zoey Doherty.

These emerging choreographers are exploring what it means to assign meaning to movement in collaboration with their fellow dancers and share their ideas with the larger community of SMC and beyond. In this production, the students reflect on their personal experiences of growth, connection, nostalgia, culture, and identity, and expose their questions about shared experiences.

Streams of Consciousness is a student choreography showcase taking an interdisciplinary approach to the art of choreography,” says Shaunna Vella, a choreographer, dancer, and member of the faculty in Performing Arts. “Audiences will experience choreography created by students of various majors creating dances based on concepts from courses including Biology, Seminar, Sociology, and Performance Theory, in addition to personal themes from their lived experience, connecting aspects of their cultures and identities to their artistry. As the show’s faculty advisor, I’m very excited to be supporting these emerging artists in creating and presenting their work to the larger Saint Mary’s Community. This show is exciting, bold, entertaining, and beautiful! These performances are not to be missed!”

The creative team for Streams of Consciousness includes lighting design by Matthew Cohen, costuming by students, production support by Dance Production Manager Danielle Ferguson, Stage Manager Melanie Parlan with the technical crew, and live stream production by David Gaylord. Each of the dances being presented has redefined the choreographic process, production, and performance while strictly adhering to COVID-19 safety protocols set by the CDC and Saint Mary’s College.
