SMC’s Jyoti Bachani and Karla Henriquez Named Outstanding Lasallian Educators
Saint Mary’s College has named two Outstanding Lasallian Educators to be awarded at this year’s Academic Convocation on Wednesday, April 27. Business Professor Jyoti Bachani and Associate Director of Financial Aid Karla Henriquez have been chosen based on the Lasallian values they bring to the College and share with our students.
Professor Jyoti Bachani, who teaches in the School of Economics and Business Administration, focuses on strategy making in business and nonprofit organizations. “In my mother-tongue, there is a saying that can loosely be translated as 1+1 is 11, so ‘We before Me’ is a way of being I inherited from my ancestors,” said Bachani. She added, “For me—to be a Lasallian is to let my student’s work speak for what happens in our classrooms.” Bachani’s other interests include management of technology and innovation with creativity, mindful use of technology for creating sustainable futures, Humanistic Management, and experiential pedagogy.
Karla Henriquez is well-known to students with questions about financial aid (and questions about Saint Mary’s in general), and can often be seen calming students’ concerns. “I am humbled and honored by being named an outstanding Lasallian Educator,” Henriquez said. “A quote I always use is ‘God Works in Mysterious ways,’ and ‘Things happen for a reason.” Henriquez assists the entire student population, with an emphasis on undergraduate students. She oversees the federal work study program, endowments, and the financial aid federal work study staff.
Please join us in congratulating these two Lasallians at this year’s Academic Convocation on Wednesday, April 27, from 1 to 2:30 in the Chapel and at a reception afterward. They will join Brother Ernest Miller, FSC, DMin, who is being awarded an honorary degree at the event.
