S.T.E.M. Conference & Workshop

Dr. Kristen Beck (Math & CS) reports that the S.T.E.M. Conference & Workshop she coordinated in March was successful and rewarding.

On Saturday, March 19, SMC hosted a day-long "Expanding Your Horizons" STEM conference for 6th-8th grade girls in the Lamorinda schools. The conference, presented by the Orinda-Moraga-Lafayette chapter of the AAUW and sponsored by the SMC School of Science, included 12 hands-on workshops run by local STEM professionals (including our very own Alice Baldridge and Rebecca Jabbour) as well as two inspiring keynote addresses delivered by Danielle Feinberg (Director of Photography for Lighting, Pixar) and MJ Marggraff (Mission Support Representative, Virgin Galactic). Approximately 120 girls and 40 parents participated in the conference.
