The Town of Moraga Turns 50, and Saint Mary’s Is Part of Their Parade!
Scores of Gaels will be taking part in the town’s parade on September 28. Come out for the fun and to show what Gael Pride is all about. The celebration continues that afternoon with SMC’s Saddle Up for Fall.
The Town of Moraga is celebrating its 50th anniversary, complete with a parade—and the Saint Mary’s Gaels will be there in force! The 50th anniversary parade takes place in downtown Moraga on Saturday, September 28, beginning at 10 a.m.
More than 130 students, staff, faculty, and other members of the Saint Mary’s community are planning to take part in the celebration. Look for Gael athletes from Men’s Rugby and Women’s Basketball, Baseball and Women’s Cross Cross Country & Track, along with participants from Performing Arts and the Intercultural Center, the Dante Club and the Gael Sisterhood, the Residence Hall Association and more.
“As our own 100th anniversary of Saint Mary’s relocating to Moraga approaches in 2028, the upcoming town parade and celebration gives us a wonderful opportunity to express our appreciation to the townspeople and residents of this beautiful community,” notes Saint Mary’s President Roger J. Thompson. “I hope as many Gaels as possible—including students, faculty, staff, and others—can attend the parade and show what Gael Pride is all about! Let's do our part to make Moraga the great college town it deserves to be."

Following the parade, the Town of Moraga hosts the annual Pear and Wine Festival, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Moraga Commons, 1425 St. Marys Rd. The festival includes food, wine, and pear pies (yum!)—as well as kids activities, live entertainment, and a special 50th anniversary store.
The Saint Mary’s campus will be home for more festivities the afternoon of Saturday, Sept. 28 as well: Saddle Up for Fall brings entertainment and excitement to SMC. The afternoon kicks off with a comedy show at 1 p.m. in the Soda Center, followed by live music, line dancing (always a big hit), food, crafts, and more from 3 to 7 p.m. on the De La Salle Lawn.
