Double Majoring

Double Majoring
Body

Majoring or double-majoring in media production doesn’t necessarily mean a student intends to “go to Hollywood” or work in television broadcasting. Every industry - from nursing to accounting to geology - needs employees that are conversant with media production tools and techniques to communicate effectively. A Media Production double-major is a way to distinguish yourself in your field and offer dynamic, forward-looking skill sets to employers.

The Media Production major at Saint Mary’s is a modest, interdisciplinary curriculum that was designed to offer students an opportunity to easily double major across disciplines. MP can be paired with virtually any other Saint Mary’s major in a feasible four-year graduation plan. Here a few of the more popular and/or industry-friendly MP double-major pairings:

  • Media Production, BA + Computer Science, BS
  • Media Production, BA + Art Practice, BA
  • Media Production, BA + English: Film, Drama, Cultural Studies Concentration, BA
  • Media Production, BA + Communication, BA
  • Media Production, BA + Data Science/Data Analytics/Business Analytics, BS
  • Media Production, BA + Performing Arts: Theater/Dance/Acting, BA
  • Media Production, BA + Politics, BS
  • Media Production, BA + History, BA

More than half of current Media Production majors are double-majoring (and some are minoring, as well!)

Media Production + Technical Theater

"I became a media production major to learn the technical skills to create artistic work for any future jobs I might have. Also, every industry needs people to produce for them because of how prevalent media has become so it definitely feels like an up and coming field."

Media Production + Politics

"The interdisciplinary aspect of the Media Production major is what made it so appealing to me. Classes range from fiction filmmaking to sports coverage to documentary media. With that variety of topics, not only am I excited to learn but I feel prepared for whatever direction a career in media may take me."
