This past weekend, October 4-6, Saint Mary’s College warmly welcomed families and alumni to campus for its inaugural combined Family Weekend and Homecoming celebration. The event, hosted by Student Life and Alumni Engagement & Events, not only allowed current students to reconnect with their loved ones but also invited alumni to relive cherished memories and engage with the vibrant campus community.

Kicking off the festivities on Friday afternoon, families participated in the monthly Feel Good Friday, hosted by the Intercultural Center. Students eagerly introduced their families to favorite spots, sharing insights into their college experiences. The second annual Oktoberfest—hosted by Campus Activities Board, Gael Force, and Residence Hall Association—took place Friday evening in the 1928 Pub. The event featured custom beer steins and traditional German food such as pretzels, bratwurst, and German desserts.

Saturday was filled with an exciting lineup of events including workshops, information sessions, the School of Science poster session, soccer games, a Student Life wine & cheese social, back-to-back Men's and Women's Soccer matches, and a chance to meet the deans of Saint Mary’s schools. Presenting sponsor University Credit Union led a tour onto the basketball court in UCU Pavilion. One of the highlights of the weekend was the Parent Reception, hosted by President Roger Thompson and wife Debbie Thompson. Families were invited to Siena House to mix and mingle with the President and Mrs. Thompson and other SMC families.

Sunday concluded the weekend with the annual Family Mass followed by a reception sponsored by the Mission and Ministry Center. The weekend provided a perfect opportunity for families to spend time with their students, connect with other families and alumni, and experience the campus as their students do.

Feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive. “I love Family Weekend.  Seeing Gael families is awesome and is always a blast!” said senior Lourdes “Lulu” Hernandez ’25.

Family Homecoming was more than just a series of events. It was a time to celebrate accomplishments, forge connections, and create memories.  Both families and alumni left campus with a renewed sense of pride and love for Saint Mary’s College.
