Environmental Health and Safety
In response to the emergency temporary Cal/OSHA standard on COVID-19 infection prevention, the College established, implemented, and maintains an effective written COVID-19 Prevention Plan that includes:
- Identifying and evaluating employee exposures to COVID-19 health hazards.
- Implementing effective policies and procedures to correct unsafe and unhealthy conditions (such as safe physical distancing, modifying the workplace and staggering work schedules).
- Providing and ensuring workers wear face coverings to prevent exposure in the workplace.
- Provide effective training and instruction to employees on how COVID-19 is spread, infection prevention techniques, and information regarding COVID-19-related benefits that affected employees may be entitled to under applicable federal, state, or local laws.
Infectious Disease Preparedness and Response Plan:
Our Infectious Disease Preparedness and Response Plan can help guide protective actions against the flu, SARS-CoV-2 virus (causes Coronavirus respiratory disease 2019, known as COVID-19), or other infectious agents. The Plan helps Saint Mary’s College of California stay abreast of guidance from federal, state and/or local health agencies, and consider how to incorporate those recommendations and resources into workplace-specific plans.
The ergonomics program is now managed by Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S). For ergonomic requests, please contact Peter Wells, Director of (EH&S) at extension 8287 or pjw6@stmarys-ca.edu.

Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP):
Saint Mary’s College of California will provide a safe and healthy work environment for employees. In order to prevent accidents and injuries in the workplace, SMC has developed and implemented this IIPP, which applies to employees working at the College campuses. Employees are expected to follow safety rules and established safe work practices, and to exercise caution in their work activities.
