Student Health Insurance Requirement Information:

Good health is essential to academic success and unexpected medical bills can threaten your ability to complete your education should you be uninsured or have inadequate coverage.

• In an effort to ensure students’ physical and financial health, Saint Mary’s College of California requires All Full-Time Domestic and International Undergraduate students and all registered International Graduate students to show proof of health insurance coverage.

Basic plan information for the 2024-2025 Student Health Insurance Plan for Saint Mary's College of California provided by United Healthcare can be found here. The annual cost for undergraduate students will be $2,465.

Waiving the Health Insurance:

• Undergraduate students are AUTOMATICALLY ENROLLED in the Saint Mary's College Student Health Insurance Plan (SMC-SHIP) each year or must waive the insurance if they can demonstrate comparable insurance and do not want to incur a charge on their account for the Student Health Insurance Plan.
• The waiver process must be completed by August 15, 2024 for Fall 2024.
• If you waive your insurance, we suggest printing a copy of your approved waiver and keeping it in your AY file.

Enrolling in the Saint Mary's College Student Health Insurance Plan:

• Undergraduate students who do not waive by August 15 or who do not actively enroll in the plan will be automatically enrolled in the student plan and sent instructions on how to access their account and insurance card on September 22, 2024. Their coverage, however, will be retro-effective to August 1st.
• Students can actively enroll in the plan starting August 1st to access their accounts and download their insurance cards if healthcare is needed prior to September 22.
